NEW YORK — Tom Brady still hasn’t closed the book on playing quarterback in the NFL again.

Speaking on DeepCut with VicBlend, Brady said he’s “not opposed” to a return under the right circumstances.

“I’m not opposed to it,” Brady said, with a grin. “But I don’t know … I’m always going to be in good shape, always be able to throw the ball. So, to come in for a little bit, like MJ coming back, I don’t know if they’d let me, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it.”

The circumstances under which Brady would be willing to return are about what you’d expect. He said if a team in contention were to have lost its quarterback late in a season, he would be open to a return.

Blends proposed a scenario where the San Francisco 49ers might need a quarterback headed into the playoffs and then Brady also mentioned the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Radiers before giving his answer.

Now a full year removed from the game and set to begin a broadcasting career this upcoming season; it’s hard to imagine Brady, who will be 47 in August, stepping in after more than a year away to help a hypothetical contender.

As Brady also pointed out, he’s hoping to become a minority owner of the Raiders, and he doesn’t know if the league would allow him to return if he were holding a stake in another team.

For what’s it worth, in late 2023, Brady revealed that he nearly unretired before last season.

“The only downside to 2023 was when I was about to unretire in May and my friends threw a surprise retirement party. Kind of forced my hand,” Brady wrote on social media.
