Why Was This Mets Fan Tossed from Dollar Dog Night?

This hot dog and drink combo is single handedly the most popular food court option at Costco.

(Queens, NY) – The New York Mets announced they set a Citi Field record on Tuesday night during Dollar Dog night with 44,269 hot dogs sold. It seems one Mets fan helped do his part in reaching that mark – if the tee shirt he wore is any indication.

The guy ended up going viral on social media – and the New York Post wrote up his story – after he was spotted wearing a homemade shirt. It read “bad day to be a glizzy” – with glizzy being a slang term for hot dog.

He had tally marks on the front of the cotton tee which he used to keep track of the beers and hot dogs he had consumed. Ultimately it looks like suds edged out sausage – with 10 beers drank and nine hot dogs eaten.

But that wasn’t the end of the guys’ night. He actually ended up getting tossed from the stadium. Was he too rowdy? Drunk? Making a mess with his hot dogs? It turns out other fans were actually the reason he got thrown out. As fans started pelting him with their extra, unwanted hot dogs, stadium security went to remove the “glizzy” guy.

Apparel company The 7 Line posted an apparent explanation to their X account: “The story goes… in the 9th inning everyone started throwing their extra dogs at him. Cops had to toss him so everyone else would stop. He wasn’t thrown out for having a good time and apparently left without incident.”

Other social media users helped out with detective work. X user @bbcush posted he “Rode with this legend back to the city, got the whole story. Him and his girlfriend came from westchester to have a good time… Welder, blue collar guy, just wants to drink beers and eat glizzys.”

The Mets say they limited fans in attendance to four hot dogs per transaction amid Dollar Dog night – with $1 hot dogs, naturally. The Philadelphia Phillies have held one for years at Citizens Bank Park – but they canceled it. That’s because fans started throwing them at each other last year. I

nstead they will offer a buy-one, get-one-free hot dog night. The “glizzy” man will have to readjust his tee shirt design if that comes to pass for Citi Field.
