It’s been a big debate in the world of New York sports for a while now. Which is the worst team – The New York Jets or New York Giants? Since 2010, the Jets have had a record of 74-119 and the Giants of 80-113. However, each team has made positive additions and changes that can hold a spotlight on the potential these teams hold.
For the Giants, they are arguably one of the most improved teams in the league. With the hiring of former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as head coach, the Giants are bringing in a coach who knows how to win, and knows how to develop players like Bills quarterback Josh Allen who has sprouted into an MVP candidate. With a better offense, and a more developed leader in Daniel Jones, the Giants offense will see more success than what was seen with previous head coach Joe Judge. As a result of a better offense, that in hindsight should also lead to an improved defense. Just two years ago, the Giants defense was ranked 9th in the league dropping all the way down to 21st this past season. That could partly be due to the fact that the defensive group spent way more time on the field then they should have.
On the other hand, the Jets, being led by 2nd year head coach Robert Saleh, have an improved offensive line and young weapons for second year Quarterback Zach Wilson. When thinking about it, the majority of the Jets potential success all rides on Wilson’s efficiency and what he brings to the field. He showed some glimpses of hope last season with not much help around him so it is important for that growth to continue.
Overall, it is safe to say that for both teams, making the playoffs will be a dream come true for fans but is seemingly unrealistic. For these two organizations, showing development in their young players including their quarterbacks and winning more games than they have in the previous few seasons will surely be a sign of success.
