The 150th Open Championship, one of the PGA’s four major trophies, teed off the first round today at St. Andrews. Some of golf’s greatest were seen on the course looking to win one of golf’s hardest and most coveted trophies.

Tiger Woods, who had skipped the US Open in June to prepare for The Open after his leg injury, found his way back to major competition at his “favorite course.” The day started rough for Woods, who drove his tee shot into a divot and missed a three-foot putt for a chance at saving bogey. Hope subsided quickly for a monumental return for Woods.

Defending Champion Collin Morikawa finished the day at Even, eight back from the leader, Cameron Young. The 25-year old New York state native, Young, shot an -8 (64), the lowest opening score in a player’s first Open Championship round since 1934. He sits two strokes ahead of the 2014 Open Championship winner, Rory McIlory, who had one of his best rounds of the tour, with a single bogey on 13 and 7 total birdies.

Cameron Smith is currently in third place with a first round -5 (67). Dustin Johnson and Scottie Scheffler are amongst the pack sitting tied for fourth with a first round -4 (68). Amateur Barclay Brown of England also finished the day at -4, a tremendous outing in a major tournament.

Other major players sit in contention for the Open trophy. Phil Mickelson shot an E (72). Hideki Matsuyama sits tied for 35th with a -1 (71). South Africa’s Ernie Els, winner of the 2002 and 2012 Open Championship shot a -2 (70), currently tied for 27th. The 2018 Open Championship runner up Xander Schauffele sits T13th with a -3 (69).

As golfers finish the first day of cloudy skies and tremendous action, the chase ramps up for the final three days of the Open, with a $14 million purse on the line.

Can Cameron Young keep up his dominance? Will Tiger Woods make the cut? Could we see an incredible comeback from Mickelson or Morikawa?

The action for the second round starts at 4 AM EST on USA Network.
