NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Elijah Moore has requested a trade, but that the Jets have “no plans” to move him.
Moore was absent from Thursday’s practice for personal reasons. We now find out the 22-year old no longer wanted to play for New York Jets. Earlier in the week Moore expressed his displeasures on twitter, but later deleted it.
The sophomore WR has gotten off to a slow start this season — failing to exceed 53 yards. Moore’s usage has spiraled since the Jets reinstated Zach Wilson under center and moved to a run heavy game-plan. His lone Week 6 target didn’t even show up in the box score because it was erased by penalty. Moore has complied just eight targets in Wilson’s three starts after collecting 21 in the team’s first three games (Joe Flacco.)
“We love him, and I know how important he is to this team,” Wilson told the media today.
Earlier in the year, disgruntled WR Denzel Mimms also requested a trade but the Jets famously refused the former second-round picks request. The 25-year old has yet to be active for a game this season. ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported today that Mims’ trade request is “still on the table.”
The Jets would be smart to at least entertain a trade offer, with the team heavily leaning on their 2022 draft class (Breece Hall, Garett Wilson.) However, teams developing young quarterbacks aren’t typically in the business of selling low on skill talent.
