With it officially being “Spooky Season” and Halloween being just around the corner, it only feels right that we delve into the world of wrestling and reminisce on some of the creepiest WWE Superstars to ever haunt the wrestling ring. Buckle up, it’s about to get scary.

  1. Jake “The Snake” Roberts

While Jake “The Snake” Roberts may have been more intimidating than “scary”, If you have Ophidiophobia, also known as a fear of snakes- this WWE Superstar will probably rank at #1 for scariest superstar. Jake “The Snake” was known for laying his pet snake, “Damien” across his opponent’s body following a win. Yikes.

  1. Viscera

We all remember Nelson Frazier Jr. as Big Daddy V, but often overlooked is  perhaps one of the most frightening WWE characters of all time- Viscera. The 500-pound-fear-inducing superstar was originally introduced as an enforcer for the “Ministry of Darkness”, and his all white contact lenses while being dressed in complete black garb was something that gave wrestling fans some serious nightmares even to this day.

  1. Doink the Clown

While some have considered Doink the Clown (Matt Bourne) to be a silly gimmick- others have considered this superstar to be one of the creepiest to enter the ring. Doink was at first a goofy clown- but the Superstar soon became one of the most sinister. He was known for terrorizing children that sat in the audience and used twisted tactics to secure a win.

  1. Kharma

One of the most underrated on this list would be none other than Kia Stevens, A/K/A Kharma. Kharma debuted at Extreme Rules in 2011, and quickly became one of the most frightening WWE Divas ever. She would show up at random week by week to different female superstar matches and completely destroy both opponents without missing a beat. Her career didn’t last long following her pregnancy announcement and she officially retired from wrestling in 2021.

  1. Finn Balor’s “Demon”

“Too Sweet” WWE Superstar Finn Balor’s alter egoDemon makes the cut for not just having a spooky storyline, but for also being one of the most anticipated to show up to the ring. Balor’s alter ego only shows up for important matches or events, and has an exceptional ring record. Demon creeps down the ramp decked out in red and black body paint meant to look like he crawled out from the depths of hell and it works… every single time.

  1. Kamala

We’re taking it back to the 80’s for this one. Perhaps one of the most remembered members of Devastation Incorporated”  was none other than Kamala. The character was meant to be a savage who terrorized his opponents in and out of the ring. Kamala’s popularity went as far as feuding with legends like Hulk Hogan– and his final feud being against none other than Andre the Giant.

  1. Papa Shango

Charles Wright was inducted into the Hall of Fame as “The Godfather” but one of his first ever characters was undoubtedly one of the scariest in WWE history. Papa Shango, a voodoo priest meant to challenge and “control” none other than The Undertaker. It was a supernatural storyline that struck fear into the hearts of wrestling fans every single week!

  1. The Wyatt Family

What’s more terrifying than a group of grown men slowly walking down a lantern-only lit entrance ramp wearing tattered clothing and animal masks? It’s hard to say. The Wyatt Family, which consisted of Bray Wyatt, Erick Rowan, and the late Luke Harper, debuted in November 2012, where their first ambush attack was none on none other than the terrifying Kane. Attacking one of the scariest superstars in the ring set the tone for who the backwoods cult-esque trio were going to be in the WWE, and their run ran so large that they even feuded with John Cena.

  1. Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss was a spin-off of Bray Wyatt’s The Fiend- and while it didn’t nearly compare to the masked demon himself- it was still creepy beyond words. Bliss’s character was under the control of The Fiend, and she would (similarly to him) enter the ring and disrupt matches. Perhaps the creepiest part of the gimmick though- Alexa’s doll “Lilly” that “tells her” what to do. Big time nightmare fuel.

  1. Kane

Kane‘s huge debut at Badd Blood: In Your House in October 1997 shook the WWE world for the better. The character of Kane, who was first brought up through the tales of the forever creepy Paul Bearer, is The Undertaker’s long-lost brother. Although he debuted seven years after Taker, Kane quickly became a fan favorite and a WWE horror staple. The visual of the big red giant ripped the door of the hell in the cell’s hinges is one we will never forget.

  1. Mankind

WWE Superstar Mick Foley becoming Mankind was one of the most legendary moments in wrestling, probably ever. Foley’s Mankind was a mentally unstable schizophrenic that would enter into the ring wearing a mask- and would sit in the corner pulling his hair out and screaming “mommy.”  His lore was that he lived in a boiler room and would cause damage to anyone who stood in his way. He undoubtedly was the blueprint for Bray Wyatt’s “The Fiend”. His character got him face to face with The Undertaker himself making Foley an absolute horror legend.

  1. Paul Bearer

Paul Bearer was not quite a WWE wrestler, but definitely played one a key role in the WWE universe for a very long time. He was known for being the creepy caretaker of The Undertaker, Kane and Mankind– debuting around 1990. Not only was his presence in or even around the ring unsettling to the core, but the drama Bearer’s storyline brought to the show week after week regarding his complicated relationship with Undertaker and of course, Kane. Bearer was the definition of horror in the WWE universe!

  1. Boogeyman

Martin Wright was able to take a supernatural wrestling character to maximum levels that left a lot of us not only horrified, but without a doubt grossed out the same way that The Boogeyman did. There aren’t very many other wrestlers that would be willing to not just smash clocks over their heads, but to eat and hold live worms in their mouth for the pure horror and shock factor of a character. Although holding a belt was never in the cards for The Boogeyman, he’s remembered for terrorizing Superstars to no bounds and still pops up every now and then to this day! No one is ever safe from…The Boogeyman.

  1. The Undertaker

Winding down to the final two scariest WWE superstars, it is no surprise that the man himself- The Undertaker, makes the cut here. Undertaker is undoubtedly not only one of the greatest horror based WWE superstars of all time- but perhaps one of the most well known and iconic names in the wrestling universe. He debuted at Survivor Series in November of 1990, and from then on became a household name with a 20-win Wrestlemania streak, countless iconic matches, insane crowd pops and so much more.

  1. The Fiend

Coming at number one, while some may argue this- Bray Wyatt’s “The Fiend ” is undoubtedly the most horrifying WWE Superstar and overall character that the wrestling fandom has ever seen. The Fiend is essentially Mankind with a dark supernatural twist and a fantastic promotional team. The Fiend is Bray Wyatt’s alter ego that’s main goal is to terrorize the WWE roster, but there’s levels to this- split personalities as well. When the Fiend wasn’t donning his gruesome mask,  he was playing with his creepy “Firefly Funhouse” puppets on a weird kids TV show. (Yes, it’s as strange as it sounds). The Fiend’s promotion and popularity has grown so large that the promotion for the character has even caused “glitches” on Fox Sports reports and has terrorized the likes of Randy Orton, John Cena, and so many others.
