The Jets will host their arch rival, the New England Patriots on Sunday at MetLife Stadium at 1:00 p.m. The last time the Jets defeated Bill Belicheck and the Patriots? 2015. The new look Jets look to change that this Sunday.

The last time these two teams met the Jets were blown out in Foxborough 54-13. However, the past is the past.

The Jets offense has relied for a majority of the season on their rookie running back, Breece Hall. With Hall done for the season with an ACL injury, it’s now time to see what the newly acquired James Robinson can bring to the table. The Patriots defense ranks 25th in the league for total yards allowed. Robinson is instrumental in both the pass and run game and should plug in perfectly for Hall. Robinson has 340 yards and three touchdowns on the ground and 46 yards and a touchdown in the receiving game this season. Wilson’s safety valve should be heavily utilized on Sunday.

Quarterback Zach Wilson has not been the most efficient by any means for the Jets passing attack. His totals for the past three games: 40 completions, 441 yards, and zero touchdowns. However, he has not turned the ball a single time in that span.

“The last two defenses have made a lot of really really good quarterbacks look really really really bad and Zach’s not the first or the last..we’re not wavering on where he is, we still think he’s getting a lot better…” head coach Robert Saleh told the media on Wednesday.

As for the Jets defense, they face a quarterback who has missed three games this season due to an ankle injury. Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was benched for Bailey Zappe after he completed just three out of six passes on Monday Night Football this past week, one of which was an interception. When under pressure this season, Jones has five turnovers. Jones will in fact suit up to play Gang Green this week and the Jets  have to do what they have done all season long. Get to the quarterback.

Defensive lineman Quinnen Williams has been extremely effective at that this season. Williams has five sacks (11th in NFL) and 11 QB hits. This has translated to more success for edge rusher Carl Lawson and defensive end John Franklin-Myers. Lawson has 14 quarterback hits good for the number two spot in the league. Franklin-Myers has lined up both inside and outside and has been effective in both facets of the game. He has 1.5 sacks, eight quarterback hits, and two tackles for a loss.

The Patriots currently sit at the bottom of the AFC East with a 3-4 record. They’re coming off of a 33-14 blow out loss to the Chicago Bears.

Prediction:

The Jets are rolling on a four game winning streak right now and will not ease off the throttle now. The Patriots have a quarterback who does not seem to be at hundred percent and the Jets pass rush is thriving. I see the green and white taking this game by a score of 28-17.

Notes:

  • Wide receiver Corey Davis did not practice on Thursday still nursing a knee injury and is unlikely to play this Sunday. Enter Elijah Moore.
