Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Yankees have agreed to a two-year, $40 million contract to bring back first baseman Anthony Rizzo.
Rizzo rejected the club’s one-year, $19.65 million qualifying offer Tuesday, just to ink a two-year deal with $40 million guaranteed a few moments later. Earlier in the day it was being reported the Astros were the frontrunner to land the 33-year-old but that was deemed untrue.
Rizzo will earn $17 million in each of those two seasons and the contract also includes a $17 million club option for the 2025 season with a $6 million buyout. Rizzo tied a career high blasting 32 home runs for the Bombers 2022. He was also named a finalist for the Gold Glove award but was beat out by Blue Jays phenom Vladamir Guerrero Jr. It would have been his fifth gold glove.
