The Bears placed Khalil Herbert (hip) on injured reserve earlier this week, opening the door back up for David Montgomery.
Herbert left Week 10’s game against the Lions with a hip injury and now will miss at least the next month.
Over the past four weeks, Chicago is averaging 25.8 running back carries per game, and now the majority of those touches go to Montgomery. Of the seven running backs to see 17-plus touches against Atlanta Falcons this season, six of them have scored 18-plus fantasy points. Atlanta ranks 23rd overall vs. the RB position.
With the Bears offense clicking on all cylinders and the run game being an integral part of their success, it’s difficult to imagine a world that David Montgomery doesn’t finish a top 15 RB in week 11.
Tristan Ebner is now the handcuff for Montgomery as he should be pressed into a bigger role down the stretch. It’s likely that Montgomery and Justin Fields will take most of the workload regardless, but Ebner is the next man up in the Chicago backfield.
