NBA: Minnesota Timberwolves at Philadelphia 76ers
Joel Embiid has been diagnosed with a left mid-foot sprain and will miss the 76ers’ next two games at minimum. Embiid will sit out Tuesday against Brooklyn and Friday against Charlotte, and “his status beyond that will be updated later.”
Embiid suffered the injury when Georges Niang committed friendly fire, accidentally falling on him on a fast break during the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 112-109 loss to the Timberwolves.
“How do I make up for Joel? We’ve just got to play,” Doc Rivers said after Monday’s practice. “We worked today on a lot of movement stuff offensively. We’re not going to be a big team, we’ll just figure it out and go ahead.”
Philadelphia is already down Tyrese Maxey and James Harden for the foreseeable future. Shake Milton, Montrezl Harrell, and Georges Niang all should see a boost in usage.
For now Doc Rivers and company set their sights to Ben Simmon and the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday.
