Matt Milano jumps into the stands to celebrate his interception with the fans.

When you think of the best off-ball linebackers in the NFL, Matt Milano has to be near the top of that list. Bills’ fans know all too well how good Milano is and has been, ever since he joined the team as a fifth-round pick back in the 2017 NFL Draft. He has become one of those guys who does not get the recognition he deserves outside of his own fan base. The fact of the matter is, that Milano has made the case that he is the best off-ball linebacker in the game and put himself in the defensive player of the year conversation.

Milano’s teammates have taken notice as well. After the Bills 31-23 win over the Browns this past Sunday, defensive tackle Jordan Phillips raved to the media about Milano. “Defensive Player of the Year. Matt Milano. Make sure you all start saying that” Phillips said. “He makes the big plays, he doesn’t miss tackles, interceptions, touchdowns, you name it. You can’t tell me anybody that’s playing better defensive football than Matt Milano. He’s consistent, he’s a leader, you can count on him every week. Tell me who plays better?”

Milano had a monster game verse Cleveland, tallying 12 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, one sack, and a fumble recovery, while almost adding an interception that just bounced a little too far for him. He was a key factor in why the Bills defense held one of the best running backs in the league, Nick Chubb, to 19 yards on 14 carries. In nine games this season, Milano has amassed 55 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, a sack, 3 Quarterback hits, a fumble recovery, five passes defended, two interceptions, and a touchdown.

Milano is a massive difference maker on one of the best defenses in the league. For folks who don’t know much about him, you should. Watch his game tape and you will understand why he should be in the All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year conversation. He is playing out of his mind this year.
