The Green Bay Packers have had an absolutely abysmal season since going 13-3 last year with a loss in the Divisional round. This year the Packers playoff hopes are looking slim however, the offense may have a serious weapon for years to come.
The second round draft pick out of North Dakota State, rookie wide receiver Christian Watson has been a delight to watch for Packer fans. It took some time for Watson to find his rhythm as he battled a hamstring injury early on in the season which caused him to miss a total of three games. Watson was also knocked out of the Week 8 game against the Buffalo Bills after he suffered a concussion. Despite the rough start to the season and the other issue he had with dropping balls, Watson is emerging as a true downfield threat.
The 6’3” 208 pound speedster currently has six touchdowns in three games. He also has a touchdown in each of the last three games (the first player since Billy Howton back in 1952).
His big breakout game was against the Dallas Cowboys in a 31-28 win back in Week 10. Watson finished that game with three touchdown receptions on four catches and 108 yards receiving. His most recent touchdown in the 40-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday was a perfect portrayal of the 4.36 speed that the rook possesses. He found pay-dirt on a 63 yard catch and run on a pass from backup quarterback Jordan Love. Watson hit a max speed of 20.97 miles per hour on that play according to NextGenStats, which is the fastest top speed of any Packers player this season.
The Packers have been looking to fill the void of having a really good weapon on offense since the departure of Davante Adams last season. Watson could certainly be the go-to guy for the green and gold if he can continue to perform at the pace he is playing at right now.
