That’s right. Odell Beckham Jr. has chosen East Rutherford, New Jersey as his first stop in his quest to find a new NFL team. The New York Giants have a history with OBJ, drafting him in the first round of the 2014 draft. The Meadowlands allowed Odell to flourish as the teams WR1 with Eli Manning as his quarterback. He eventually sailed to Cleveland, but his prior tweets suggests that it may have been Dave Gettleman’s doing during his tenure as the General Manager of the New York Giants. After two chapters in the NFL without a playoff victory, the Los Angeles Rams provided Beckham the opportunity to return to his old self, and with that, he became a Super Bowl champion.
It’s his first visit back to the Meadowlands since October 3rd when he checked up on his buddy Sterling Shepard after he tore his ACL. It was not an official visit with the team, but he was with some familar faces at a team facility, including Saquon Barkley.
The main issue here is obviously his health. Beckham tore his ACL for the second time since 2020 during last years Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams and he has been on the shelf ever since. The timetable for OBJs return has been consistently pushed back, with a return now set for mid to late December. Today, he visited the new front office that the G-Men now have. GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have a problem, they themselves are not healthy offensively speaking. Should Beckham come back to Big Blue, he would immediately reclaim his WR1 role in New York. The Giants, however, are known for being a run-heavy offense, especially with a menace like Saquon Barkley. It will be tough to judge Odell’s value right out of the gate, but with the departure of Kadarius Toney, the injuries to Wan’Dale Robinson (torn ACL) and Sterling Shepard (torn ACL), and the disappointment of Kenny Golladay, a playmaker is a must if this 7-4 team is going to make noise.
OBJ’s itinerary from here is a meeting on Friday with the Buffalo Bills and on Monday with the Dallas Cowboys as of right now. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens have also spoken with Odell and are in the hunt. The bidding is just getting started with Big Blue setting the bar.
