It is Super Bowl week. But Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson still has time to clap back at the haters.
“Tell him to pick his facemask off the dirt,” Gardner-Johnson said to PhilyVoice.com. “He’s got a captain badge, but what is he a captain of? Ain’t no leadership over there.”
Gardner-Johnson is referring to Giants safety Julian Love, who left it all out there last week on Good Morning Football when talking about Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni
“He’s in it for a free ride right now,” Love said. “You guys can coach this team. I mean, come on.”
Sour grapes does not begin to describe Love’s sentiments towards Sirianni. Sirianni coaches an Eagles team that went 3-0 against Big Blue this year with a combined score of 104-48.
Love later doubled down on Twitter to discredit Sirianni while hyping up the talent on the Eagles roster.
“I’m not wrong. This is a players league,” Love tweeted. “Philly has dogs on the roster top to bottom. It’s no mystery why they’re in this position.”
It’s also no mystery Sirianni turned this Philly team around dating all the way back to last season with the emergence of its run game. If anything, Eagles players seem to be rallying around their 41-year-old coach more than ever.
As for Love and the Giants, it appears there are more pressing issues that should be front of mind than a coach who led his team to the Super Bowl. More specifically Love’s future, which sees him as an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
