(New York, NY) – As Jets fans eagerly hope for word that their team has acquired a new QB, it appears one such option could soon be off the board.

On Wednesday, Carr met with Saint head coach Dennis Allen, offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. and other members of the team’s brass for dinner at Ralph’s on the Park in New Orleans, per New Orleans Football.

Several weeks after the Las Vegas Raiders agreed to let 4-time Pro Bowl selection Derek Carr seek out a trade, a deal could be close. That’s per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who told the Pat McAfee show the New Orleans Saints are emerging as the “frontrunner,” with several teams reportedly interested in Carr.

Saints fans were elated – with photoshops popping up on Twitter showing Carr in the black and gold. On the flipside, some forlorn, shellshocked Jets fans were crestfallen. One said simply, “Noooooooo!!!!!” Another fan tweeted out, “I already know how this ends. no Carr, no Rodgers, no chance, no hope.” That’s of course a reference to Green Bay Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers, a rumored trade target for New York. Picking up Carr would be a coup for New Orleans, who have struggled to find a long term answer under center following the retirement of franchise icon Drew Brees. That said, fans of the rival Atlanta Falcons don’t seem too worried: several responded to the news with a series of “crying laughing” emojis

For now, consider the Saints the overwhelming favorite to acquire the four-time Pro Bowler.
