(New York, NY) – The New York Jets have hired a new passing game coordinator in Todd Downing, who has a history of working well with young QBs.
Downing was fired by the Tennessee Titans last month, after being accused of driving under the influence in Tennessee. Reports indicate the offensive coordinator may have been drinking at the Titans’ facility, or on the team plane, considering the incident happened shortly after a Thursday night game in Green Bay. The 42-year-old served jail time in January as a result.

Downing worked with new Jets’ offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in 2014 with the Buffalo Bills. He’s also coached Rams’ QB Matthew Stafford, Raiders’ QB Derek Carr, and Titans’ QB Ryan Tannehill.
The Minnesota native was promoted to OC ahead of the 2021 season after Arthur Smith was hired to become the Atlanta Falcons head coach. The Titans were the No. 2 offense in the NFL under Smith in 2020, but Downing’s unit got progressively worse, ranking No. 17 in 2021 and slipping down to No. 30 in 2022.
In addition to Hackett, Downing will find another familiar face with Gang Green – Titans coach Keith Carter. He was brought on to serve as the Jets’ new offensive line coach and running game coordinator.
