(New York, NY) – In a bid to let Giancarlo Stanton play his natural position, Yankees captain Aaron Judge may take up a new position.
Stanton, who manned right field during the earlier part of his career as a member of the Miami Marlins, has largely played in left or as DH for New York.
Now, Judge may switch over to left field to accommodate Stanton in right. The 2022 American League MVP actually played center field more than anywhere else last season but, of course, right field is his natural spot. His only experience in left field came in 2016 at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre when he started seven games there.
That’s according to MLB insider Joel Sherman, who reports the plan is under consideration. Sherman says the idea would be to put Judge in left “many times” this season.
Of course, the slugging outfielder broke Roger Maris’ American League record for home runs in a single season last year, with 62. He then signed a $360 million, nine year contract to return to the Bronx. But it would seem team officials aren’t worried about a potential position change, with spring training underway.
