NFL: Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Rams
(New York, NY) — In the span of a year, Russell Wilson went from being one of the most beloved QB’s to the laughing stock of the NFL. Despite the season in the rearview mirror, the former MVP is still catching stray hands.
Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen was asked about what it was like to play again Wilson, and his answer? Flat out gold.
“Seeing him in person, it was pretty funny because like, on TV you see him like from college like, ‘Okay, he look in shape on TV’, but you see him in person it’s like weird he like a sack of potatoes,” Woolen said on the 2 Up 2 Down Podcast.
Woolen went on to say that while Wilson is still athletic, he just did not think that would be the way he was built.
“But the crazy thing, he athletic,” Woolen said. “He athletic and he a good player but like, literally when I seen him I’m like, ‘damn I didn’t know he was built like that’ and he was short. You know I’m taller than him anyway but like ‘damn he that short.”
Now it makes sense, why Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll refused “to let Russ cook.”
Fair to say Wilson’s sack of potatoes build was a reason for the Broncos demise in 2022? It was the first time since the NFL expanded to 32 teams that Denver finished last in the entire league in scoring. The cost? A casual $242 million.
In the fallout, the Broncos fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett after less than one year and brought in Super Bowl winner Sean Payton to replace him.
