(New York, NY) – With Tom Brady finally deciding to hang em’ up, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the picture of uncertainty at the QB position. That said, in 2021 the team drafted Kyle Trask in the second round, out of Florida.

Bucs GM Jason Licht says he’s confident Trask is not only ready to become the team’s starter – he’s convinced the 24-year-old signal caller is the best in the division. New Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales spent part of his introductory press conference Wednesday talking up the young quarterback too.

“I really liked him coming out (of college),” Canales said Wednesday. “He was able to distribute, and the thing we’re going to help Kyle continue to build on here is to just be a point guard. Point guards don’t have to be the one that scores all the points. You just distribute. Play on time, get the ball out of your hands. Life’s better that way when you do that.”

It’s fair to assume at this juncture, Trask will be under center for the Buccaneers in Week 1. If you need more convincing, here’s ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington

“From my conversations with the organization, they do feel like Kyle Trask is likely to be the guy under center. I feel pretty confident that they’re going that direction.”

Either Way, Trask will be asked to step up in a big way if Tampa Bay doesn’t draft someone else or sign a QB in free agency/via trade.

The Buccaneers selected the 24-year-old with the 64th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s failed to start a regular-season game yet. During his two seasons in the league he’s taken just 10 snaps, all in mop-up duty.

After making the NFL playoffs during the past three seasons with Brady at the helm, anything less than high level play from Trask will be a let down.
