NFL: Combine
(New York, NY) – Free agent QB Derek Carr is in Indianapolis, where the NFL combine is underway. But he’s not there to scout incoming rookies.
As he looks for a new team next season, Carr is set to meet with the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, and Carolina Panthers. Released by the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this month, Carr is easily the most coveted free agent at the QB position.
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, also a popular name for teams looking to upgrade, is only available via trade. For Carr, it’ll be a second meeting with the Saints and Jets. He’ll be huddling with Panthers team officials for the first time.
There are reports the Jets already offered Carr a contract, after previous meetings reportedly went well. New York’s GM Joe Douglas went so far as to call it a “fantastic visit,” adding Carr left a strong impression with everyone.
“I can tell you that was a fantastic visit. Really enjoyed spending time with him,” Douglas said. “He left a strong impression with everybody. We’re going to be exploring the veteran quarterback market this offseason, we’re going to look at every available option. When it’s time to make the right decision, we’re going to make the best decision for the Jets.”
It’s expected that Carr will be seeking a contract that pays him in the range of $34 million per year.
For now? Consider the Jets the favorite to land the four-time Pro Bowler.
