The reigning NFC Champions could have a new-look backfield next season.

The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t expected to bring back pending free agent running back Miles Sanders, Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano reports. The 25-year-old is coming off a career year, setting new marks in rushing yards (1269), rushing touchdowns (11), and scrimmage yards (1347).

However, Philadelphia General Manager Howie Roseman is said to not be interested in making a big investment in the running back position.

Philadelphia has already proven to be one of the better rushing attacks in the NFL regardless of who’s in the backfield. Trey Sermon, Kenneth Gainwell, and Kennedy Brooks have a combined cap hit of nearly three million dollars, perfect for a league that has shown long-term running back investments don’t usually lead to a Lombardi Trophy.

Philadelphia also has a huge free-agent class.

Fletcher Cox, Robert Quinn, Brandon Graham, Javon Hargrave, Jason Kelce, James Bradberry, Issac Seumalo, Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, and Linval Joseph are just some of the players expecting big paydays.

Not to mention the impending Jalen Hurts mega-extension.

Not paying a guy at the NFL’s most disposable position, may not show much loyalty-wise but, for long-term investments, is without question the right move. Things ramp up for Roseman and co. when the NFL Draft comes around, where the Eagles have two first-round picks, deals that’ll also have to be considered along with the aforementioned names.

Perhaps this is the end of Sanders’ time in Philadelphia, and rightfully so. The Eagles are strapped for cash with a lot of high-level, difference-making free agents to sign.
