Texans Eying Jimmy Garoppolo in Free Agency?

(New York, NY) — Imagine a world where the Houston Texans draft Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud, and the way he develops is sitting behind James “Jimmy” Richard Garoppolo. Well, that may become a reality.

According to CBS Sports, there is a push within the Houston Texans to sign a veteran quarterback, specifically Jimmy G.

Perplexed and flabbergasted are two of the only words to describe the idea of Jimmy G coming to Houston.

Which is more baffling? Jimmy G agreeing to become a Texan or the idea he’d be a starter for one year before being pushed out the door for the third time (after being traded by New England and replaced in San Francisco).

The intent is not unusual. It sometimes helps rookie quarterbacks to sit behind a veteran who has found success in this league. The problem though is while Garoppolo’s winning percentage is that of an elite quarterback, he’s been asked to do the bare minimum. Schemes, talent, and coaching all led to Garoppolo not having to show any elite traits to get San Francisco as far as they went (a super bowl appearance). But anyone who watches the game knows it is also the reason why the Niners never got over the hump.

One cannot imagine a player like CJ Stroud having to develop under a game-manager quarterback like Garoppolo.

But again, it is the Houston Texans. A team whose previous head coach had the team win their final game of the season (and in many people’s eyes out of spite) which in turn prevented Houston from getting the number one overall pick.
