(New York , NY) Despite all of the negative publicity, New York Jets Mekhi Becton appears to be getting his NFL career back on track.
On Wednesday, the offensive lineman shared a photo of himself at the gym on his Instagram account. The post featured Becton posing, after apparently fishing a workout. “YALL WORKOUT TODAY??” He added, “DAM I LOOK GOOD.”
Becton, 23, has been ridiculed over his first three NFL seasons for being out of shape. It was rumored at one point he ballooned to 400 pounds after he was sidelined with a knee injury in 2021. On the teams official site, the Jets list “Big Ticket” at 6-foot-7, 363 pounds.
While the exact number is unknown, it certainly appears Beckton has lost career changing weight.
The No. 11 overall pick in the 2020 draft has played just one game the past two seasons, after playing 14 his rookie year. Becton, who was graded the top rookie offensive lineman by Pro Football Focus, would be a monumental addition in the trenches for New York Jets.
When Becton met with reporters at the end of this past season, he already looked to be in better shape.
“As y’all can see, I look real skinny right now,” Becton joked at the time.
It appears “Big Ticket” is doing everything within his power to ensure he can stay healthy in 2023 and prove to the Jets that he can be the franchise left tackle they expected him to be when they drafted him.
