NFL: Baltimore Ravens at Las Vegas Raiders
(New York – NY) 99 percent of the world would be ecstatic to know they are making 200 million dollars guaranteed. For Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, apparently it is not enough.
On ‘The Adam Schefter Podcast,’ hosted by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL insider detailed Jackson’s contract talks from earlier in the season. “$133 million guaranteed. The contract also had injury guarantees that brought the guarantees to $175 million,” Schefter said on his show. “…then had a springing guarantee that could’ve brought the value for the contract, the guaranteed money of the contract to $200 million in guarantees…”
Before you drop your jaw, Lamar Jackson quickly responded to Schefter’s reporting, posting a gif of a random person with multiple hats on, calling “cap” or lies on Schefter’s part. “People throw [expletive] at the all and hope it stick,” Jackson said in a later tweet. “133/3 years fully guaranteed but I need a agent?”
The tail end of Jackson’s response brings even more questions. If a three-year fully guaranteed deal was Baltimore’s final offer, how can the 26-year-old turn it down considering his recent injury history?
The 2019 MVP seems deadlocked on his contract wants, whatever the number may be. But if there’s anything the Ravens’ non-exclusive tag on him will prove, it’s the worth of Jackson on the open market. Jackson can lower his demands and end up re-signing with Baltimore, or have what are now unrealistic contract demands prevent him from solidifying his future.
