(New York, NY) – The New York Jets are reportedly “interested and staying in touch” with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. as he looks for a new squad, according to ESPN insider Dianna Russini.
While a return to the New York Giants looks increasingly unlikely given their recent moves in free agency and via trade, Beckham Jr. in green could be realistic. After Aaron Rodgers indicated this week his intention is to play for the Jets next year, the team is undoubtedly looking to add more weapons and boost their offensive profile. During his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers denied that he made any demands or gave the Jets a “wishlist,” but added he would love to play with OBJ.
Beckham, 30, is also tied to an unreasonable price tag and has been for months. Still insistent on a $20MM-per-year ask, the three-time Pro Bowler will need to move off that number — likely by a considerable margin.
The pass catcher who reached the height of his career as a member of the Giants, has also played for the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams – with whom he won a Super Bowl, injuring his knee in the process.
He missed all of last year while rehabbing. During a recent workout, the Jets, Bills, Patriots, and all three of Beckham Jr.’s previous teams were in attendance. ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio has reported he’s looking for $20 million per year in his next contract.
The wide receiver’s former teammate – defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison – tweeted about Beckham Jr. joining Gang Green, to which ODB responded with the “eyes” emoji.
