(New York, NY) – For a several-week long run back in 2015, Daniel Murphy became a baseball legend in the Big Apple. Now, he’s returning to play baseball in New York – for the Atlantic League’s Long Island Ducks.
“This game is part of my soul, and my passion for playing grew as great as ever when I discovered certain things that I believe will enable me to be productive on the field again,” Murphy said in a statement thanking the organization for the opportunity.
Murphy, known for his sweet lefthanded swing and sometimes boneheaded baserunning, helped carry the Mets to the World Series the last time the club won the pennant.
He then signed with the division rival Nationals, where he came just short of winning a MVP. Following stints with the Cubs and Colorado Rockies, Murphy stepped away from MLB, and even attended Mets old timers day last summer. Now, he’ll reunite with his former Mets teammate Ruben Tejada, who’s also signed on to play for the Ducks.
Murphy, who’ll turn 38 this weekend, last saw the big leagues with the Rockies in 2020.
