(New York, NY) — Just when the Rangers thought they were back at full strength, the injury bug struck again.
Defensemen Jacob Trouba left Wednesday’s game against the Lighting with an upper body injury and did not return. The Blue Shits captain appeared to sustain the injury with about 12 minutes left in the opening frame.
Tampa Bay forward Corey Perry shoved Trouba from behind — clipping the defensemen’s shoulder, leading Trouba to awkwardly stumble and fall face-first onto the ice.
Head coach Gerard Gallant told reporters that Trouba is being monitored on a day-to-day basis and is traveling with the team for the upcoming game against the Blues on Thursday. The 29-year-old has played in all 78 games this season.
Patrick Kane also missed Wednesdays contents due to maintenance and a lower-body issue, while Ryan Lindgren returned to the lineup after missing 17 of the previous 18 games due to a shoulder injury.
“It was a playoff-style game,” Lindgren said after the Rangers 6-3 win. “Two teams that are just gearing up for the playoffs and want to play the best hockey they can right now. Just competitive teams. Obviously, there’s some history between us, but it’s fun and a good win for us.”
The Blue Shirts have a quick turnaround as they head to St. Louis Thursday night, where Vladimir Tarasenko returns for the first time since his trade to New York last month.
