(New York, NY) — Not enough has been done for Raiders RB Josh Jacobs.
Raiders GM Dave Ziegler said Jacobs has not signed his franchise tag and will not participate in the voluntary offseason program; he’s not allowed to join in until the tag is signed or a long-term deal is agreed upon.
Jacobs is a superstar at his position who led the league with 1,653 yards rushing and 2,053 yards from scrimmage last year. He also had 12 touchdowns, becoming a first-team All-Pro for the first time in his career. Not having him on the field would be a disaster for the Raiders.
In the recent past, Jacobs said he was willing to play on the franchise tag but only if the Raiders added extra talent around him;Jakobi Meyers has since joined him in Vegas but it doesn’t seem like that moved the needle.
Ziegler said they are working through “that situation” with Jacobs but didn’t seem all that concerned about this impasse.
“As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not going to really do the contract negotiation and those types of things in the public eye because I don’t think that’s responsible to do or fair to do for any of the parties involved. So, we’ll just keep working through that process and see where it goes” he said.
The expectation is that Jacobs will play on the tag in 2023 and hit the open market in 2024.
