(New York, NY) — Amidst the QB carousel, Trey Lance of the San Francisco 49ers isn’t getting off at a different location from where he got on.
While speaking at his press-draft press conference, 49ers GM John Lynch said he fully expects Trey Lance to remain in San Francisco for 2023.
“We and he are focused on his ability to compete and play an integral role on this team,” Lynch said. “We’re excited about Trey’s ability to compete and what he can do for our franchise. The only thing that’s changed his offseason is Trey has gone and got himself healthy.”
“Trey and I have talked, and we’re on the same page,” Lynch added. “Trey knows exactly where the situation is. His mindset is all about competing. And I think that’s exactly where his mindset should be.
The trade buzz comes after last year’s breakout rookie Brock Purdy continues to rehab an elbow injury he suffered during the NFC Championship game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport says “no trade is imminent, and the 49ers would almost certainly want to make sure (Purdy’s) rehab continues to go as smoothly as it’s been going.”
Lance, a former third overall pick, has been recovering from his season-ending leg injury He will be competing against veteran Sam Darnold and (at some point) Brock Purdy for his spot in the QB room.
The 22-year-old has appeared in eight games with four starts over his young NFL career. He’s thrown a total of 420 passes between college and the NFL
