MLB: Chicago Cubs at Los Angeles Dodgers
(New York, NY) — After she was heard calling another female reporter a “f–king c–t” last week at Yankee Stadium, national baseball reporter for ESPN Marly Rivera was fired. And on Wednesday night, her social media accounts went kaput.
In addition, Rivera’s employee bio no longer exists on the ESPN website.
“She no longer works here,” ESPN told The New York Post in a statement on Rivera, who had been with ESPN for 13 years. She covered the MLB as a whole with an emphasis on the Yankees.
The incident that led to her firing occurred last Tuesday before a Yankees-Angels game in New York, where Rivera and reporter Ivón Gaete had a disagreement when Gaete arrived in an attempt to interview Aaron Judge; the disagreement–that Riversa said she arranged a time to speak with New York’s captain, an assertion Gaete denied–sparked the vulgarity.
“I fully accept responsibility for what I said, which I should not have,” Rivera told The New York Post. “There were extenuating circumstances but that in no way is an excuse for my actions.” Those words were her only comment on the incident.
Until this blows over, it seems she’ll be keeping a low profile.
