MLB: Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants
(New York, NY) — The Mets are adding a much needed fresh arm to their bullpen.
Veteran right-hander Dominic Leone has a locker set up in the Mets’ clubhouse this morning, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. The team hasn’t made a formal announcement yet and will need to clear a 40-man spot, but Leone is in uniform for New York’s series finale with the Tigers.
The 31-year-old opted out of his minor-league contract with the Rangers on Tuesday after posting a 1.59 ERA over 11.1 innings at Triple-A Round Rock. He was evidently told by the Rangers that a promotion wasn’t imminent, leading to his departure.
This is Leon’s seventh big league club in nine season.
The journeyman has enjoyed recent success. During the 2021 season, he made 57 appearances for the San Francisco Giants as a member of their bullpen, pitching to a 1.51 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 53.2 innings pitched.
