(New York, NY) — Patrick Kane met with the media for the first time since being eliminated by the Devils, and his comments were to say the least, interesting.

“I think it’s a special group in here,” he said Wednesday. “I think they’ll find a way to win.”

At first glance it’s generic response, but notice the 34-year-old speaking in past tense.

Kane, who labored in his two month tenure with the team, is set to become a free agent for the first time in his 16-year career.

“I think, even me personally, I look at that series and I know if I felt a little bit better, I can help us win that series. It’s a little almost disappointing and depressing in a way, but that’s just kind of how I feel about it.”

There’s not a decision on that yet,” Kane said when asked if he will need surgery. “We’re going to have to find a way to get me back as close to 100 percent as possible.

The three-time Stanley Cup winner was acquired by the Rangers from the Chicago Blackhawks ahead of the 2023 trade deadline. He had 12 points in 19 regular season games and another six points in the playoffs.

“I would love to be back,” Kane told reporters. “If I can feel better, with this team and this opportunity, I’d love that chance.”
