(New York, NY) — The Texas Rangers superstar shortstop is nearing a return.

The team announced Corey Seager (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.

Seager has been out since early April due to a left hamstring strain and has finally progressed to the point where he’s ready for a minor league rehab assignment.

Rangers skipper Bruce Bochy did not say which affiliate the shortstop might join for the assignment. Both Triple-A Round Rock and Double-A Frisco are at home next week.

The 29-year-old had been the Rangers’ best hitter before a hamstring strain landed on the 10-day injured list on April 12. He hit .359 with a 1.007 OPS through his first 11 games.

As for Jacob deGrom (forearm tightness) – it could be another few weeks.

“He hasn’t started throwing yet, but he feels great,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “We’re in probably that three-week area.”

General manager Chris Young said the ace had an MRI that revealed inflammation in his right elbow. Treatment was prescribed before deGrom is allowed to resume baseball activity, which could be days or weeks. He’s been sidelines since April 28th.
