(New York, NY) — Michael Jordan’s warm-up jacket from the 1992 Olympics “Dream Team” is up for auction.
The Reebok jacket is estimated to bring one- to three-million dollars. It’s on display at Sotheby’s [[ SUTH-a-beez ]] New York and the online auction that began Thursday runs until June 28th.
“The ‘Dream Team’s’ influence on basketball is immeasurable. To be able to sell this relic from such a historic world sporting event — — is both rare and unparalleled,” Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s Head of Streetwear & Modern Collectables, told CBS Sports. ”
Jordan wore the infamous jacket while accepting his second Olympic gold medal, but the item actually became iconic because of what he was trying hide while donning it. Michael draped an American flag over the right side of the jacket during the medal ceremony to hide the Reebok logo on his outfit.
Following the ceremony, Jordan tossed it to Brian McIntyre, the consignor of the jacket.
“I certainly don’t want it,” he told McIntyre. Jordan is aware of the decision to auction the jacket.
The jacket will also be on display IRL at Sotheby’s New York from June 24 to 28.
