NFL: New York Jets at Philadelphia Eagles
(New York, NY) – Amid a series of contract extensions for standout defensive linemen, Jets star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams appears to be losing patience.
At the very least, he may be frustrated that a new deal hasn’t happened for him yet, if his Twitter profile is any indication.
Williams’ hometown of Birmingham is listed, as is his website.
Under his account’s username or handle, it reads: “Defensive Tackle for ……………….” – any mention of the New York Jets is conspicuously absent.
The most recent message from Williams’ account is a retweet of NFL insider Adam Schefter, when he reported the New York Giants had signed DT Dexter Lawrence to a big extension.
Lawrence was drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the same year Williams was drafted. The Giants took Lawrence 17th overall, while Williams was nabbed with the third overall pick.
Lawrence’s extension with the Giants includes a $22 million signing bonus and $59 million guaranteed. Meanwhile, Jeffery Simmons of the Tennessee Titans, Daron Payne of the Washington Commanders, and Javon Hargrave of the San Francisco 49ers all inked deals this offseason, worth more than $20 million annually.
“Everybody knows I’m a team guy. Everybody knows that I believe in the team and want to put the team first and different things like that, but I do want to get a contract done before the offseason program,” Williams said after the season.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported last week the parties “aren’t close to an agreement” on an extension.
