(New York, NY) — Ex-Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy is looking to translate his success to the NFC with the Washington Commanders after signing a multiyear deal this offseason.
With an open competition at the quarterback position 2nd year talent Sam Howell is already turning heads. Bieniemy has raved about the quarterbacks poise so far through Washington’s offseason program.
“Sam’s a very competitive kid…His demeanor does not change… And I will say this: He autocorrects himself as well.”
Howell was drafted by Washington in the 5th round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The 22-year-old finished with an impressive college career setting the school record for both career passing yards and touchdowns. The former North Carolina singal caller earned the start in Washington’s week 18 finale leading the team to victory past the Dallas Cowboys.
HC Ron Rivera is on the record stating “We will go into OTAs, minicamp and training camp with Sam Howell more than likely QB1, and we’ll see what happens…If he comes out and does the things that he’s capable of, we believe he’s capable of, he can most certainly be our guy.”
With the departure of Taylor Heinicke to the Atlanta Falcons and Carson Wentz still a free agent, Howell will battle newly acquired Jacoby Brissett for the starting spot.
