(New York,, NY) — A member of the Indianapolis Colts is under investigation by the NFL for violating its gambling policy, the team confirmed Monday.
The website Sports Handle reported that an unnamed Colts player placed “hundreds” of bets, and that “some” of these wagers were on the Colts. They noted the allegations around the team appear to be “isolated to one player.”
The bets were reportedly placed from inside the Colts’ facility, which is against league policies.
“We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will have no further comment at this time,” an official told ESPN.
Although the player is not considered a superstar, an NFL fan has probably heard of him and the player is still on the Colts’ roster, the source revealed.
Jenny Reske, the deputy director of the Indiana Gaming Commission, said they are looking into matter.
“I can confirm that we have received information pertaining to this matter and we are following developments,” Reske told Sports Handle.
“The IGC is not the lead agency because it involves violations of league policy. We will, however, continue to review information as it emerges to see if it requires any regulatory action.”
In April, the league indefinitely suspended Detroit’s Quentez Cephus and C.J. Moore and Washington’s Shaka Toney for betting on games in 2022.
Lions’ wideouts Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams were suspended for the first six games of the season as well. Williams was the 12th overall pick in the 2022 draft.
We’ll undoubtedly learn more about this story as it develops, with a suspension likely on the way for the player under investigation.
