(New York, NY) — One of the big headlines out of Minnesota this offseason has been the team’s looming decision with star running back Dalvin Cook. The 4x Pro Bowler’s exit from Minnesota has been rumored for quite some time with a team emerging as a possible frontrunner.

Dolphins insider Barry Jackson reports that “it’s a real possibility” that Cook ends up with the Dolphins. Jackson reported in his OTA notebook “Could Cook end up here? Absolutely. It’s certainly a real possibility if he’s cut by Minnesota. There would be interest on both sides.”

It has been no secret that the Vikings have explored trade options for the former second round pick this offseason, but have failed to find a partner interested in taking on his $10.4 million guaranteed salary. Steam is starting to pick up with the possibility of Cook being a post-June 1 cut that would save the team $9 million in cap space.

However, it appears that the Vikings remain patient with the situation and aren’t in a hurry to move. It looks likely that the team will continue to hold onto Cook throughout training camp, awaiting possible injuries that could spark a trade. Front office can still opt to retain the back and take on his cap hit if a trade partner can’t be found.

The Dolphins will monitor the situation closely as the favorites to land the 27-year-old if released. The former Florida State Seminole is still playing at a high level after recording his fourth straight thousand yard season. It would be a seamless fit for Cook to play for his hometown team.
