NASCAR Facing Backlash For LGBTQ Support

(New York, NY) — A #BOYCOTTNASCAR hashtag reportedly is picking up speed after the company tweeted and an image showing support for the LGBTQ community.

“We celebrate the LGBTQ+ community during #PrideMonth and beyond.” the tweet read along with a Happy Pride Month banner to go with a NASCAR logo fronted by a rainbow flag.

But not everyone was celebrating.

The majority of feedback from the millions of people who commented say they will no longer support the racing organization.

Stephen Rhodes, the first openly gay NASCAR driver, tells Queen City News, “For all the fans that are leaving, I guarantee that there is just as many coming.”

It’s not the first time this year the organization has face scurinited for going “woke.”  The company announced a more environmentally aware plan in April with a goal of net zero emissions’ that also received backlash.

NASCAR’s officials had previously stated the sport is more diverse than at any other time in its existence.
