(New York, NY) — Washington Commanders rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes is being compared to Richard Sherman.

The Commanders selected the 22-year-old with the 16th overall pick in this past year’s NFL Draft. The pick was criticized by NFL insiders with highly touted cornerback prospects such as Christian Gonzalez , Deonte Banks, and Joey Porter Jr. all still available.

“I’m going to bring a guy that’s going to have a great attitude, come in and work every day, just helping the team win games,” Forbes said “Hopefully my game is turning the ball over and creating a lot of turnovers for the Washington commanders.”

The rookies’ career is off to a strong start at OTAs, reportedly “thriving” as the teams slot cornerback.

“Honestly, I watched the tape, and I was like, ‘I think he’s good, but I don’t know,” wide receiver Jahan Dotson said  “After seeing him on the field, I know how good he is now. I understand why he was drafted in the first round. I understand what all the hype is about.”

It seems the cornerback is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves after an impressive college campaign.

“He reminds me a lot of Richard Sherman, who we drafted in Seattle,” former Commanders general manager Scot McCloughan said “The son of a gun is always in a play-making position, always gets his hands on the ball and when he does it’s an interception. It changes games.”

The approval didn’t end there:

“It’s been pretty exciting. We’re feeling really good about it so far, he is a ball hawk,” head coach Ron Rivera said. “He’s working against some of the best route runners right now in the league, and that’s kind of neat to watch this young man grow already…So it’s been a very good offseason with him so far.”

While it extremely early, it’s encouraging to see Forbes receive such glowing endorsements.
