(New York, NY) — Brandon Marshall’s career was cut short, according to Brandon Marshall. And he blames Metlife Stadium.
The former All-Pro told Doctor Mike in an interview in January that Metlife Stadium’s turf led to a career-ending ankle injury.
“I snapped my deltoid, freaking turf, oh my goodness I knew it was over,” Marshall said.
“There’s been a lot of players complaining about this turf… it’s really ruining careers, that was pretty much the last of me, I felt like I could’ve played a couple more years, but that play was over.”
Marshall played three seasons with Metlife Stadium as his home: one with the Giants, and two with the Jets, where he led the league in touchdowns.
Giants wideout Sterling Shepard also has had a battle with Metlife stadium’s turf after suffering a season-ending ACL injury on the field last year. 49ers star Nick Bosa tore his ACL in a game versus the Jets in 2020.
More players voiced their concerns about field conditions as a whole, which is leading to a change to new synthetic turf this season to combat the number of issues allegedly caused by Metlife Stadium.
“The change will not come soon enough, though, for players who will be at greater risk the rest of the season,” the NFLPA said in a statement to ESPN last November.
“We expect that whatever surface gets installed next year will meet the highest safety and performance standards possible.”
