(Tamba, Florida) — Former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield is looking for a career resurgence with the Buccaneers.

Cleveland took the Heisman winner with their first selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. Mayfield led the Browns to their first playoff win in 26 years in 2021. It seemed like he was to be the quarterback of the future, but after a torn labrum in 2021, issues with teammates and front office, and the acquisition of Deshaun Watson, Baker was traded to Carolina.

The Oklahoma product was released by the Panthers midway through the season with a 1-5 record. He stepped in for an injured Matt Stafford with the LA Rams where he claims to have hit a reset button.

“It brought that feeling of having that success and really remembering what it was all about, Kind of hit the reset button for me.”

Mayfield played four games in Los Angeles, winning just one but throwing the ball with efficiency. He landed in Tampa Bay after the retirement of Tom Brady this offseason. Baker has pushed the woes of his past play behind him and is “really excited and pumped up and just looking forward to the future.”

He will battle with John Wolford and Kyle Trask for the starting job.
