(New York, NY) — The New York Rangers are retaining one of their top defenseman.
K’Andre Miller signed a two-year, $7.7 million contract with the team on Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Miller was a restricted free agent, and coming of his best season in his young career.
The 23-year-old compiled nine goals, 43 points and 162 hits in 79 games last season. He’s become an integral part of the Blue Shirts top-four defense group while developing a strong two-way presence on the ice.
“Thankfully, I have an agent right now,” Miller said of his future with the Rangers during his exit interview in early May. “So let him go to do his job there and I’ll try to just do my job and focus on hockey, get in the gym again, and get back feeling good for next year.”
With the defensemen now locked up, the Rangers’ order of business will be to sign their last RFA, Alexis Lafreniere, who is also expected to receive a two-year deal.
