(New York, NY) — Craig Carton is not worried about Saquon Barkley
Fox Sports’s newest employee is bullish on star running back Saquon Barkley getting his contract from the Giants.
According to Carton, the New York Giants will sign Barkley to a long-term deal around $14 million per year.
“There is a better than 50/50 shot that a deal gets done by Monday, and it is trending toward the deal getting done.”
With that deal, Carton says Barkley would be the third highest paid RB in the league. He also said the deal could have been done months ago.
Carton’s report comes just a day after Dianna Russini of ESPN reported the two sides “remain at a stalemate”
“Saquon Barkley has made it clear the franchise tag is undesirable. I’m told his availability for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys will be in serious question if he does not get a long-term deal from the Giants,” tweeted Russini.
Barkley and Big Blue have until Monday, July 17th at 4 PM to reach an agreement. If no deal is agreed to by that deadline, Barkley will have to stay on the $10.1 million franchise tag for the entire 2023 season.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about respect,” Barkley said. “That is really what it is.”
Matt Breida and 2023 fifth-round pick Eric Gray are listed as the backups to Barkley on the Giants depth chart.
