(New York, NY) — Let’s the firesale begin?
Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Mets are drawing interest in outfielder Mark Canha.
“Other teams have asked the Mets about the availability of Mark Canha, and a possible match might be with the Seattle Mariners,” Olney explained. “Seattle is very familiar with Canha from his years in the AL West, and they pursued him in free agency two winters ago.”
New York is currently a whopping 16.5 games out of first in the NL East and seven games out in the Wild Card race, so they move a few veterans at the deadline without undergoing a full rebuild.
Canha is hitting .244/.346/.396 with six home runs and seven steals through 79 games.
He likely would bring the Mets a low-level prospect in return. His contract contains an $11.5M 2024 club option with a $2M buyout for the Mets or for any team that acquires him.
Tommy Pham, David Robertson and Omar Narvaez are other candidates to be moved according to Onley. The trade deadline is on August 1st.
