(Green Bay) — A birthday that Jonathan Garvin will never forget.
“Happy 24th birthday Jonathan! We are releasing you from the Green Bay Packers.”
Well, that’s not how it went down, but certainly summarizes the chatsporpich events that took place on Friday.
Just before 9:00 a.m. ET, the Packers social media team sent out a birthday announcement for Garvin, who had a large smile on his face in the photo.
Unfortunately, the smile likely turned into a frown, as the linebacker was cut just a couple of hours later.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur revealed that Garvin had been released at practice on Friday, per beat Ryan Wood of USA Today.
Garvin, a seventh-round pick out of Miami in the 2020 NFL Draft, served as a rotational pass rusher for the Packers. In his three years with Green Bay, Garvin totaled 32 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 1.0 tackles for loss.
There is still a chance that Garvin’s 24th birthday could end on a high note? Perhaps another team will come calling and give him a shot in training camp.
