(Cincinnati) — The Cincinnati Bengals dodged a bullet. At least we think so.
Quarterback Joe Burrow will miss “several weeks” due to a calf strain, head coach Zac Taylor told reporters on Friday afternoon.
When asked for a more accurate timeframe, Taylor refused, stating, “several weeks is several weeks.”
It’s fair to assume Burrow will be be sidelined for most, if not all, of training camp.
The superstar sustained the injury during Thursday’s practice and was carted off the field. ESPN’s Adam Schefter explained on Friday that Burrow “experienced tightness in that calf” during Wednesday’s practice, causing him to wear a compression sleeve Thursday.
Calf strains happen when the calf muscles get overstretched. Quick changes of direction or jumping can cause this injury, according to Mercy Health in Cincinnati.
Burrow has six and a half weeks to recover before a Sept. 10 home opener against the division-rival Browns – but who’s counting.
Trevor Siemian and Jake Browning will fight for first team reps in the mean time.
