(New York) – Domingo Germán will not pitch for the Yankees again this season, per Brian Cashman.

The Yankees season took another bizarre turn on Wednesday evening when German was placed on the restricted list to treat alcohol abuse.

“It is critical that Domingo completely focuses on addressing his health and well-being,” reads a statement from the Yankees. “We will respect his privacy as he begins this process.”

Nestor Cortes (shoulder) has cut short his minor-league rehab assignment and will presumably take over German’s spot in the New York rotation Saturday against the Astros.

Wow.

We last saw the right-hander pitch on Monday, throwing five shutout innings in relief after being scratched from his start for what the Yankees called “armpit discomfort.”

Cashman said that alcohol abuse is something Germán has dealt with in the past. There was an incident that took place Tuesday, in which the Yankees GM said he would not provide details on.

“I’m worried right now for the person and the immediate family.”

For what it’s worth, Cashman said that he was not made aware of the situation until after the Trade Deadline passed.

German, 30, served an 81-game suspension in 2019 and 2020 under MLB’s joint domestic violence policy.

It’s another usual twist in which has become a forgettable season for the Yankees.
