(New York, NY) – Despite having success with the Los Angeles Angels Triple-A team in his bid to make a major league comeback, Daniel Murphy is retiring for a second time.

The former New York Mets playoff legend batted .295 with one HR and 25 runs driven in across 149 plate appearances for the Salt Lake Bees. He signed with them in late June after enjoying success with the independent Long Island Ducks.

Murphy first hung up his cleats in early 2021, after completing the COVID-shortened 2020 season as a member of the Colorado Rockies. He signed with the Ducks in March of this year, making his comeback bid official.

Throughout the 2015 playoffs, Murphy helped carry the Mets to the NL Pennant, going yard in six straight games spanning the NLDS and NLCS. He parlayed that success into a multiyear deal with the Washington Nationals – nearly winning the MVP in 2016.

Murphy also played with the Chicago Cubs, and finished his MLB career with a .296 average.

The Mets originally drafted him in the 13th round back in 2006. He played six seasons with New York.
