LOS ANGELES – The Chargers are in hot water.
Again.
Chargers HC Brandon Staley told reporters there is “no timeline” for Austin Ekeler’s return from his ankle injury, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
A previous report via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network suggested that Ekeler has a chance to return to action this weekend against the Vikings, but after missing practice all of last week the first step toward such an outcome would be the running back returning to the field in some capacity in the coming days.
He had 16 carries for 117 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. He had been designated as “questionable” until Saturday when he was officially ruled as “out”.
Staley previously stated that Ekeler did not suffer a high-ankle sprain
Expect Joshua Kelley to continue serving as the team’s lead back in his absence, after Kelley played a massive 79 percent of the team’s offensive snaps in Week 2, carrying 13 times for 39 yards.
Still, losing Ekeler for any significant time is a huge blow to a Chargers team that has already started the season 0-2.
